Issue Activism With ADA
ADA is the nation’s premier multi-issue organization. But the issues on which we work don’t come from the top down. They come from you. Every ADA member has a voice. Every even year, ADA members from around the country come to Washington, DC to debate policy, submit resolutions and shape the liberal agenda. This is unique among all the progressive organizations out there. ADA members chose their priority issues every other year to focus our work organizing communities for change. Does this mean we don’t work on other issues or legislation? Of course not. But these issues are the focus.

Wages & Jobs

ADA has long been a leader in pushing to raise wages and fight for workers' rights. Our activist work across the country to lobby for living wages and workplace dignity.

Health Care For All

ADA has been an advocate for universal single payer health care for more than 45 years. The basic concepts of the original ADA plan of 1972 still hold true today. Click below to read our platform and learn how to take action for affordable health care.

Resisting Trump

In these trying times, ADA is resisting Trump in every way possible. Fighting the radicalization of the Supreme Court; the decimation of vital programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid; the privatization of our education system; and much, much, more.

Courts

From the local courtrooms in your community to the Supreme Court in Washington, what happens in and comes out of our court system is important to our lives and our very democratic way of life. All too often, however, the courts are used as political arena in a dangerous way and Donald Trump’s administration only exacerbates that problem. Education

Americans for Democratic Action recently adopted “A Vision of American Public Education” to guide education policy for strengthening our democratic society and improving the economic, ethical and intellectual prosperity our citizens deserve. ADA urges all Members of Congress to adopt this vision in allocating resources and making decisions about public education in America. Click below to learn more about our education vision.

Environmental Justice

ADA activists support a peaceful and sustainable green energy economy. Working toward investments in communities which, historically, have been disproportionately impacted by pollution and gross negligence of the fossil fuel industry. We advocate for passage of The Green New Deal to mitigate both the harms of climate change AND economic inequality.

Trade

ADA believes in a fight for Fair Trade. The global race to the bottom is hurting our workers, our economy, our environment leading to the decimation of communities here in the United States and exploitation abroad. We believe in a comprehensive and open trade negotiating process and that enforcement of trade agreements is essential.

Protecting Social Security

To continue to provide retirement security for current and future generations, it is time to strengthen and expand Social Security and increase benefits. ADA supports legislation to keep the Social Security system strong and ensure current and future Americans receive the benefits they earn over a lifetime of work.

Promoting Peace

ADA activists work daily toward the cause of world peace. We work with others to increase public awareness of the causes and costs of war, to oppose the militarization of law enforcement and to end the arms race and to reduce and eventually eliminate nuclear weapons and much more as we work to promote a sustainable and peaceful world.

Womens Rights

The awful Roe decision has turned women's bodily autonomy into a political battle. ADA activists work tirelessly to protect these rights. ADA participates in numerous actions and events surrounding women’s rights/abortion access throughout the country.

Immigration

Congress has failed to create a workable immigration system forcing immigrants to a life in the shadows. Our current cruel and destructive indiscriminate mass deportation policy lacks any human protection. ADA supports policies such as the American Dream and Promise Act that work to give immigrants a pathway to citizenship.

Tax Fairness

ADA supports a fair tax system that works for all Americans. Our country needs comprehensive, progressive tax reform that results in greater revenue to meet our growing needs. The rich must pay their fair share of taxes. The income gap must be closed. Big corporations and the wealthy must pay their fair share in taxes, not live by their own set of rules.
